Principal Engineer, Offshore Structures – 33590
A talented Principal Engineer is required to lead the offshore design team, providing guidance on structural analysis and taking a proactive, problem‑solving approach throughout the decision process.
Responsibilities
- Set up internal workflow for assigned projects and plan the team’s activities accordingly.
- Execute structural analysis for offshore substructures and topsides.
- Study and define the best technical solutions for offshore structures during all design stages (feasibility, FEED, detail design).
- Review technical documentation and analyses produced by the team before issuance.
- Prepare sketch drawings and concept and feasibility studies.
- Collaborate with immediate and wider teams.
- Liaise with other disciplines during project execution.
- Work with planners and project management to organise offshore resources’ workload and deliver the scope within the schedule.
- Knowledge and Experience
- Strong experience in analyses and design of offshore structures in accordance with ISO1900 series, API RP2A, AISC code.
- Ability to create and verify FEM models of fixed offshore structures (e. g., jackets, topsides) under in‑place and temporary conditions.
- Definition and design of foundation systems, including foundation piles and mud mats.
- Experience in re‑design and assessment of brownfield structures, life extension, reliability analyses and capacity for critical decision‑making.
- Experience in non‑linear analyses, blast, dropped objects, impact, redundancy, pushover analyses.
- Familiarity with offshore structural materials, fabrication and installation aspects.
- Experience with floaters design.
- Experience in tender documentation for offshore structures design and leading bidders towards efficient solutions.
- Capacity to lead and direct teams of structural engineers across multiple work packages.
- Ability to provide tutoring and mentoring to junior engineers.
- Ability to interface with other discipline PDLs in relation to the assigned project.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to convey technical information between project management and stakeholders.
- Availability to travel abroad (short and long term).
- Experience with relevant computer tools (e. g., DNVGL SESAM Suite, USFOS, ANSYS, SACS).
- Good knowledge of Windows OS, Microsoft Office, AUTOCAD and similar.
Qualifications
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Offshore Engineering, Structural Engineering or Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering with a focus on structures.
- Demonstrable experience in design of structures across all project phases (feasibility, FEED, detailed engineering, Operations).
