A specialist contractor operating within busbar and switchgear installations is seeking an experienced and commercially driven Operations Director to support the next phase of the company's growth and long-term leadership transition.
Following a recent acquisition by an investment group, the business is entering an exciting new phase and is looking for a senior leader to join the company with a clear pathway to progress into the Managing Director position within the next 2–4 years. The investment group has ambitious growth plans for the business, targeting 2–3x growth over the coming years through access to a wider client and business portfolio, while also exploring opportunities to diversify into additional electrical packages and services.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will initially focus on overseeing the operational performance of the business, supporting commercial growth, strengthening client relationships, and improving delivery capability across the company. Over time, the role will transition into full Managing Director responsibilities, taking ownership of both operational and strategic direction during a planned leadership succession process. The role requires someone commercially aware, operationally strong, and capable of helping scale the business while maintaining delivery standards and client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the operational performance of the business
- Support strategic growth initiatives alongside ownership and senior leadership
- Drive business expansion through new client development and service diversification
- Strengthen and develop relationships with existing clients and supply chain partners
- Provide leadership, structure, and mentorship across operational and support teams
- Oversee commercial performance, forecasting, and reporting
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard
- Support business diversification into additional electrical packages and specialist services
- Represent the business within client, commercial, and industry meetings
- Work closely with ownership during the Managing Director transition process
Experience & Requirements
- Time-served Electrician or Electrical Engineer with relevant industry experience
- Strong background within busbar, switchgear, LV/HV installations, or electrical contracting
- Experience within senior operational, commercial, or leadership positions
- Proven ability to support business growth and operational scaling
- Strong understanding of project delivery, commercial management, and business operations
