A highly respected M&E contractor is looking to recruit a Mechanical Estimator to join its growing pre-construction team. With a turnover of approximately £55m and an exceptionally strong financial position, the business has built a reputation for delivering high-quality Mechanical & Electrical projects across the education, healthcare, life sciences, leisure, and student accommodation sectors. Projects typically range up to £12.5m, with a sweet spot between £5m-£6m, offering exposure to technically challenging and rewarding schemes.

The Role

Working as part of an established pre-construction team, you will be responsible for preparing accurate mechanical tenders from initial enquiry through to submission. You will work closely with clients, consultants, suppliers, and internal delivery teams to develop competitive and commercially sound tenders while supporting the continued growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed mechanical tenders and cost plans
  • Review drawings, specifications, and tender documentation
  • Obtain and analyze quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
  • Produce accurate take-offs and pricing schedules
  • Provide technical and commercial input throughout the pre-construction process
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, and internal project teams
  • Support value engineering exercises where appropriate
  • Attend tender review meetings and client interviews when required
  • Assist with handovers to the delivery team following successful bids

Experience & Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Mechanical Estimator within the building services industry
  • Strong understanding of mechanical building services systems
  • Experience pricing commercial building services projects
  • Sector experience within education, healthcare, life sciences, or similar environments would be advantageous
  • Good commercial awareness and attention to detail
  • Ability to work from the Cambridge office, with flexibility to work from the Colchester office when required

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and estimating software
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
