We're recruiting on behalf of a very well-funded local authority for an Engineer β Delivery Management (Active Travel) to join their Highways Delivery team on a long-term contract basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a council investing heavily in its infrastructure programme, offering hybrid working and genuine flexibility on contract structure, including temp-to-perm options or a rolling contract basis, whichever suits you best.
You'll play a key role in the operational delivery of active travel schemes across the highway network, working under the direction of a Senior Engineer and Delivery Manager, and contributing to a well-resourced, high-priority programme of works.
Key responsibilities
- Support the delivery of commissioned active travel activities to meet agreed specifications, budgets and timelines
- Undertake site investigations and surveys to identify defects, network risks and technical solutions
- Prepare technical information, design inputs, and delivery recommendations
- Assist in coordinating active travel interventions, including minor works, capital projects and maintenance
- Operate and contribute to the Single Asset Management System (SAMS)
- Provide technical advice to internal teams, external partners and statutory bodies
- Support procurement activity, including quotations and specifications
- Monitor contractor performance and flag risks or delivery issues
- Contribute to delivery schedules, risk assessments and progress reporting
- Support NEC contract administration tasks under senior guidance
- Ensure CDM compliance and safety-first delivery practices
- Support carbon-reduction considerations in scheme delivery
- Supervise Technicians, Graduates and Apprentices as required
What we're looking for
- Substantial experience in a technical engineering environment, ideally active travel or highways
- Experience carrying out site investigations, surveys or inspections
- Experience supporting delivery of civil engineering projects or maintenance activity
- Confident working under own initiative to demanding timescales
- Experience working with contractors, consultants or external partners
- HNC/HND or equivalent in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Full UK driving licence, with ability to travel across the county
- Public sector highways experience desirable
- Exposure to NEC contract processes or procurement/contract administration desirable
