Driving Instructor Training with English School of Motoring (ESM). ESM offers no upfront course fees (Terms and Conditions Apply).

Course Details

The full driving instructor course duration is 3 to 18 months, based upon individual learning pace and personal commitments. It includes a structured combination of theory-based learning, one-to-one theory-based training and on-the-road practical sessions.

Training Requirements

  • You must be over 22 years old.
  • You must live in Sunderland or surrounding areas.
  • You must have held a full driving licence for at least 3.5 years and have not been disqualified.
  • You must commit to at least five hours a week of training as a driving instructor.
  • You must be able to read a number plate from 27.5 meters.
  • You must have an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check (cost £8.22).
  • You must have patience and understanding; some pupils learn faster than others.
  • You must possess excellent communication skills.
  • Points holders: be aware that the Driving Standards Agency may reject your application if you have more than 3 points.

You need to have a car to practice your driving in.
