Course Details
The full driving instructor course duration is 3 to 18 months, based upon individual learning pace and personal commitments. It includes a structured combination of theory-based learning, one-to-one theory-based training and on-the-road practical sessions.
Training Requirements
- You must be over 22 years old.
- You must live in Sunderland or surrounding areas.
- You must have held a full driving licence for at least 3.5 years and have not been disqualified.
- You must commit to at least five hours a week of training as a driving instructor.
- You must be able to read a number plate from 27.5 meters.
- You must have an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check (cost £8.22).
- You must have patience and understanding; some pupils learn faster than others.
- You must possess excellent communication skills.
- Points holders: be aware that the Driving Standards Agency may reject your application if you have more than 3 points.
