Location: Brougham Castle, Penrith, Cumbria, CA10 2AA

Salary: £12.39 per hour / 8 hours per week

Contract: Fixed Term until end of October (April to October)

Would you like to work for the charity that cares for hundreds of historic sites in every corner of England? We are looking for a Visitor Assistant to join us at Brougham Castle, working 8 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure visitors have a great time from arrival to departure, delivering an engaging visitor experience.
  • Provide recommendations to personalise visits, including information about English Heritage membership and on-site activities.
  • Help ensure the site is accessible, safe and well presented at all times.
  • Contribute to a positive visitor experience through teamwork and strong customer service.

Requirements and qualifications

  • No history background is required; a passion for people and excellent customer service is important.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and deliver high-quality customer service to a diverse audience.
  • Role involves variable pace; some days are busy, others quieter, especially in wet weather.
  • Some paid or voluntary experience with the public is beneficial, but full training and support are provided as part of induction.
  • Weekend and Bank Holiday work is required; more information provided at interview.
