Nature and Scope: The RFU is looking to hire an experienced insights and analytics leader who can drive a data-obsessed culture at the RFU. This individual will have a transformational impact on rugby in England. Within a year of joining, we expect this individual to have led on the following projects in particular, among other activity: The delivery of the RFU’s first Data Strategy Insights on the optimal matchday experience to support the redevelopment of Twickenham Stadium A review of the Business Intelligence programme at the RFU Collaborative fan insights projects with Premiership Rugby, Premiership Women’s Rugby, and Six Nations Rugby The RFU is mid-way through a strategy to transform rugby in England, particularly in: Women and Girls’ rugby Digital & Data Professional Rugby (International & Domestic) Community Rugby This role would work on projects across all of these initiatives. Accountabilities: Shape & Drive Business Performance: Use data to identify risks and opportunities for the RFU’s strategy. Translate diverse reports & data into a clear narrative for colleagues on business performance. Influence senior stakeholders to set the right plans for each season. Build networks with other teams, suppliers, and partners in order to deliver against RFU priorities. Lead Insights Activity: In an agile manner, deploy teams of analysts and managers to enhance the RFU’s performance against its targets through insights and analytics. Coach junior talent & other teams to deliver first-class analytics work, first-time. Translate team strategy into ways of working and measurable impact. Deliver Great Analysis: Design and execute complex analytics projects. Identify key trends and place them in the context of existing RFU knowledge. Build compelling stories, through dashboarding and PowerPoint presentations. Convert recommendations into specific actions & impact. Who will you be working with? You will join the Strategy, Insights, and Transformation Team within our Business Operations Department. Including this role, we have a team of 5 Insights specialists in this team, but there are five other insights roles spread across the business with whom you would collaborate. We expect the successful candidate to line manage one analyst and have “dotted line” responsibilities for the performance of a further manager and analyst. What skills do we need? Strategic & tactical thinker. For Lead Insights Activity: Motivates & guides individuals and teams to work to a high standard. Designs & deploys process changes to improve working practices. For Deliver Great Work: High level of proficiency with SQL and Alteryx/Tableau Prep. Strong analytical skills. Excellent data visualisation skills via Tableau or equivalent business intelligence software. Tells compelling stories with data & insights.
