The Role:
Reporting to Corporate Communications Director, the Media Operations Manager will work closely with a wide variety of stakeholders to manage components of the RFU’s reputation through effective and world-class media operations.
The role holder will lead media operations management for all Allianz Stadium fixtures, England team fixtures around the country, England teams’ media access at Allianz Stadium, as well as RFU corporate media events.
In this role, the individual will be the main point of contact for the department for media facilities and operations and liaising with all relevant internal and external stakeholders.
This individual will work with Rugby Events & Competition department to manage relationship with onsite broadcast partners.
The Team:
This is an exciting time to join the RFU communications team, which is seeking to become more visible, more transparent and engage more widely with its large range of stakeholders.
The team is made up of a group of highly talented individuals with responsibility for areas, including supporting the national teams with their media handling and public engagement, promoting the brilliant work done in grassroots rugby, building the RFU\’s external reputation and promoting the game of rugby and the benefits it brings.
Some key responsibilities include:
- Oversee and deliver all media operations for the RFU, including but not limited to England fixtures, stadium hires and other rugby and non-rugby events at Allianz Stadium.
- Support team communications managers with media operations support at home events away from Allianz Stadium.
- Continually look at ways of improving the service provided to media to ensure we are at the forefront of media operations in world sport.
- Liaise with other unions and relevant team-related media operations matters.
- Work closely with the Executive Director of Corporate Affairs and Corporate Communications Director on budget forecast and management around media operations activity.
- Responsible for look and feel and branding of media facilities, working with Commercial Partnerships team to deliver relevant branding.
- Looking after broadcaster rights holders and non-rights holders including developing access policy for non-rights holders where appropriate.
- Ensuring efficient and effective accreditation facilities and processes.
- Responsibility for media on-site catering.
- Working closely with internal teams including Rugby Events and Competitions, Stadium, TEL and Commercial Partnerships.
- Manage photography requirements for the RFU with Getty Images, coordinating the brief across multiple internal departments. Also, liaise with photography manager to ensure smooth operations for photographers in the lead up to and on match days.
- Liaison with broadcasters, particularly as relates to other non-rightsholder requests such as influencers, clubs and other union content producers.
- Managing media operations on match days including problem solving for any issues that arise.
- Liaison with opposition team or stadium hirer for any specific media requirements they may have.
- Supporting team communication personnel on match day particularly with post-match media access arrangements.
- Inputting to post event reviews – identify issues and finding resolutions.
- Actively collaborate with colleagues to contribute to the development and delivery of the current strategic, business and operational plans.
- Act as an ambassador for, and promote the best interests of the RFU, including the promotion of our culture and core values – This Rose Means Everyone: Put The Team First, Shape The Future, Respect Each Other.
- Undertake other duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the post and the needs of the organisation.
