An opportunity has arisen for a Men’s U18 Team Doctor to join our Medical team as a contractor.
Location: Homebased
Engagement Type: Contractor status. Required attendance at all England Men’s U18s and U17s training camps and match camps including the U18 Six Nations and U18 Summer Series competitions.

The Role: This is an exciting opportunity to join the team behind the England U18s Men rugby team who were unbeaten in the 2025 Men’s U18 Six Nations. We are seeking an enthusiastic, driven and clinically excellent sports physician to support the England U18s Men’s Squad on a contractor basis. The role will require attendance at training and match camps throughout the season and give the successful candidate the opportunity to travel with England U18s Men to both the 2026 Men’s U18 Six Nations and 2026 U18 International Summer Series.
Some key responsibilities include:
- Provide sports medicine services to the England Men’s U18s players during training and match camps, the Men’s U18s Six Nations and the U18 International Summer Series.
- Liaising with the England Men’s U18s Lead Physiotherapist between camps to monitor the fitness of players for selection to upcoming camps/competitions and monitor players with acute and long-term injuries.
- On-site sports medicine support to the England Men’s U18s squad, providing medical support to both players and staff in camp for general health conditions.
- Attending and leading the pitch side immediate care at team training sessions and matches.
- Providing sports medicine consultations to diagnose, investigate and commence appropriate management of acute injuries.
- Assessing fitness to play or train in conjunction with the other medical team members.
- Work with the U18s lead physiotherapist to ensure appropriate handover of both acute and ongoing medical conditions back to Premiership Academies at the end of each camp and/or competition.
- Leading on the medical planning for training camps and competitions, including Medical Emergency Action Plans, medication and medical equipment requirements.
- Leading on the medical planning for overseas travel including ascertaining host country medical services, vaccination requirements, mitigating the impact of travel and exertional heat illness risk mitigation and emergency planning.
- Supporting the planning, documentation and implementation of individualised injury prevention programmes.
- Monitoring player wellness and injury status whilst in training camps and competitions.
- Maintain accurate medical records using the on-line electronic medical record keeping system in accordance with the England Elite Rugby Best practice medical record keeping guidance for Medical Practitioners and Therapists and General Medical Council (GMC) guidance.
- Participate as part of an inter-disciplinary sport science and medical team to facilitate world class player development and care.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
- Medical Degree
- Post-graduate training in Sport and Exercise Medicine (PG Diploma or MSc).
- Registered with General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practice.
- Current Level 3 Pre-Hospital Immediate Care in Sport Course Certificate (or equivalent).
- Proof of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) specific to Sport and Exercise Medicine.
- A range of diverse advanced clinical skills.
- Experience in joint injections.
- At least 5 years’ post-registration experience including General Practice and/or Emergency Medicine.
- At least 3 years’ experience of providing sports medicine support to elite sportsmen or women.
- Experience of self-directed work and working as part of a team.
- An understanding of and experience in applying appropriate medical ethics in an elite sports medicine environment.
- Experience of working with elite age group teams/squads.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Good IT skills and ability to use Microsoft Office software or Mac packages to store, manipulate and present information.
- Excellent personal time management and planning skills in the face of a large workload.

- The post holder must maintain confidentiality of information and be aware of the Data Protection Act (2018) and Access to Health Records Act (1990).
- The post holder will need to be cleared via an enhanced DBS check.
- It is the responsibility of the doctor to ensure that they obtain appropriate medical indemnity insurance covering this role.
- Demonstration of ongoing immunity (or in the case of non-responders, freedom from infection) to hepatitis B.
- Possession of clean driving licence.
- The post holder should be aware of the responsibility placed on employees under the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) to ensure that agreed safety procedures are carried out.
