If our purpose resonates with you, and you recognise the value that sport can bring to people’s lives, we’d love to work with you. An opportunity has arisen for a Digital Learning Designer to join our Game Development team on a fixed term basis.

The Role

We are seeking a Digital Learning Designer to join our England Rugby Learning team, responsible for designing and developing world class, accessible and user-centred digital learning experiences. The role has a strong focus on producing high-quality video and digital content that supports the development of coaches, match officials, volunteers and the wider rugby community.

Working under the guidance of the Digital Learning Manager, the Learning Designer will collaborate closely with subject matter experts and key stakeholders to translate strategic learning objectives into impactful video-led and digital learning solutions. All content will align with best practice in instructional design, reflect England Rugby’s learning strategy, and meet agreed quality, governance and accessibility standards.

The role will play a key part in the implementation of the new England Rugby Learning Platform, supporting its launch to the Community Game in July 2026.

The Team

The England Rugby Digital Learning team sits within Rugby Development and is responsible for the design, development and delivery of England Rugby’s digital and blended learning offer. The team works closely with subject matter experts, stakeholders and partners across the game to create high-quality, accessible learning experiences that support the development of coaches, match officials, volunteers and the wider rugby workforce.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead on the planning, production, filming and editing of video content for digital learning programmes, including coaching practice, match official scenarios, interviews and demonstrations.
  • Set up and operate video, audio and lighting equipment in a range of environments (e.g. training venues, matchdays, indoor settings).
  • Edit video content to a high standard, incorporating graphics, captions, animations and sound to enhance learning and engagement.
  • Ensure all video content meets accessibility standards, including subtitles, transcripts and inclusive design principles.
  • Apply instructional design principles to ensure video content is purposeful, learner-centred and supports knowledge transfer and behaviour change.
  • Integrate video content into wider digital learning solutions (e-learning modules, blended programmes, LMS pathways).
  • Support the Digital Learning Manager in engaging stakeholders across the Rugby Development network, ensuring alignment and adoption of learning solutions.
  • Upload and maintain content within the new England Rugby Learning Platform (LMS), ensuring a smooth and intuitive learner experience.
  • Support integration of new content into user pathways, journeys and campaigns developed by wider team.
  • Actively collaborate with colleagues to contribute to the development and delivery of Rugby & Club Development strategic, business and operational plans.
  • Act as an ambassador for, and promote the best interests of the RFU, including the promotion of our culture and core values – This Rose Means Everyone: Put The Team First, Shape The Future, Respect Each Other.
  • Undertake other duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the post and the needs of the organisation.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Current driving licence with no more than six points.
  • Proven experience producing, capturing and editing video for digital learning, education, or training environments.
  • Strong technical skills using video production and editing software (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Final Cut Pro, or similar).
  • Knowledge of motion graphics, animation or visual storytelling techniques.
  • Strong understanding of instructional design principles, learning theory, and user-centred design.
