Overview

ROLE SUMMARY The Roses Pathway Head Coach is responsible for leading the identification, development, coaching and preparation of the most talented young athletes in order that they may be \’Roses-ready\’ and prepared for the specific demands of international netball training and competition, so that the Roses can achieve the ambition of winning major global events (Commonwealth Games and Netball World Cups) and being recognised and respected as the world\’s best female sports team. The role will be carried out on national training camps and competitive tours, both at home and overseas, and will also support the athletes\’ development within their Netball Super League clubs, as well as informing the development of player pathway programmes across the game. It is expected that the successful applicant will work closely with the Vitality Roses Head Coach, the EN Head of Player Pathway and the UKSI Head of Performance Support to ensure that athlete development across the Player Pathway is aligned to future Roses success. Other key relationships are with the Roses Pathway Operations Co-Ordinator, UKSI Support Staff, EN Performance and Pathway Coach Developer, NSL Team Head Coaches, NSL Pathway Leads, Roses Pathway athletes and Roses Pathway Athlete Assessors.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the EN Performance Director, Vitality Roses Head Coach and EN Head of Player Pathway to establish the long-term vision for an aligned Roses Pathway
  • Design, plan and prepare a robust training and competition programme that best prepares future Roses athletes for the specific demands of international netball
  • Deliver the technical and tactical coaching support to Roses Pathway athletes
  • Lead the player identification, assessment and selection process for Roses Pathway athletes into programme and competition squads
  • Lead the establishment, development and monitoring of Individual Performance Plans for Roses Pathway athletes
  • Work off-camp with Roses Pathway athletes\’ domestic clubs to ensure player support is aligned and collaborative
  • Observe high potential athletes training and competing in their Pathway Club environments (NSL, NXT Gen, NPL)
  • In partnership with the EN Head of Player Pathway, influence the strategic direction of the training and competition structure and environments of the EN Player Pathway, and inform the development of the Roses Development Framework
  • Lead the Roses Pathway staff team and, in partnership with the EN Performance and Pathway Coach Developer and UKSI Head of Performance Support, support and educate staff to ensure staff are delivering world leading standards
  • Lead the preparation of EN national pathway teams participating in competition programmes as outlined above

  • Effective and efficient delivery of coaching sessions that inspire and enthuse high potential athletes
  • The ability to plan and deliver a range of technical and tactical sessions with individuals, small groups, and the wider team
  • Excellent use of a range of communication skills and strategies
  • How to support the transfer of athlete learning from practice to competition
  • Experience in planning & implementing a high-performance pathway program
  • An ability to set and evaluate group and individual goals

Tech and Tact

  • Essential: An ability to articulate tactical changes and technical improvements to athletes in a concise and meaningful manner
  • A deep understanding of the specific demands of the modern international game
  • Desirable: An understanding of how to use objective data, measures, and insight to monitor and develop performance

Relationships/Athlete Development

  • Essential: An ability to work effectively in a team
  • Build trust, honesty, and rapport with the athletes and staff to foster positive relationships
  • A proven understanding of performance sport and the role of the Coach within a high-performance pathway environment
  • Demonstrate excellent and consistent athlete management behaviours
  • An understanding of how to support the development of athlete independence and personal ownership
  • Desirable: The ability to support or facilitate the required learning and development in line with team values and ambitions

Other

  • Essential: A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people, including their physical and mental health
  • Desirable: An ability to effectively and efficiently use SportsCode and HUDL and confidently present findings back to the team

Experience

  • Essential: Recent experience of a Senior International netball programme as a player or coach
  • Experience of leading at Domestic (NSL/SSN/ANZ) senior-level or assisting at International age group level and/or seniors in training or competition environments (World ranking competitions/WYC)
  • Experience of coaching netball within a performance pathway environment
  • Experience of working within a full-time training environment for extended periods on home soil and/or overseas
  • Experience of leading and of working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • UKCC Level 2 or above (or overseas equivalent), Drive, determination, enjoyment of work, independence, humility, integrity, enthusiasm, adaptability
  • A willingness to recognise and utilise athlete\\\’s prior knowledge skills and experience
  • Evidence of recent commitment to professional learning and development
