We’re looking for two passionate and commercially minded ecologists to join us as Ecology and Land Management Advisors.
Working on a consultancy basis, these exciting new roles will enable us to provide ecologically focused land management advice and delivery, helping nature recovery across Cumbria.
Ecology & Land Management Advisors
Salary: £32,140 per annum based on a 35-hour working week
Contract length: Fixed term for 2 years with the possibility of permanency

Previous experience engaging with local communities, farmers and land owners would be essential to this role, along with experience in delivering ecology-based projects. Working on a Consultancy basis, the Ecology and Land Management Advisors will deliver commercial-based services for paying clients.
Special Features of the role:
Cumbria Wildlife Trust has been awarded Responsible Body status for the purpose of writing and holding Conservation Covenants. The Ecology and Land Management Advisors will be responsible for drawing up and monitoring high-quality Conservation Covenants and the associated documentation (with the use of external legal advice as appropriate). Biodiversity net gain (BNG) is also a key area of development for the Trust; therefore, a good general understanding of BNG and Conservation Covenants agreements would be desirable.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide a supportive and collaborative ecological and land management advice service for external clients.
- Conduct ecological surveys and habitat condition assessments in accordance with best practice and produce reports identifying changes needed to habitat management.
- Manage incoming enquiries and requests from clients, prepare contracts, cost estimations and lead on the delivery of the project from start to finish.
- Pro-actively engage with local communities, farmers and landowners and build positive, working relationships with contractors to ensure projects are delivered within specified timescales.
- Collaborate with colleagues, partners and stakeholders as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Our ideal candidates will have strong ecological backgrounds, ideally with experience working with biodiversity net gain and a proven track record of managing and delivering their own projects. They will possess a can-do, positive approach and the aptitude to learn.
