Swindon Hockey Club is seeking an ambitious and committed Coach to lead our Men’s 1st Team, currently competing in West Hockey Division 1. With aspirations for promotion to the West Hockey Premier League, we are looking for a coach who can drive performance, develop talent, and help take the team to the next level.

Location: Swindon, Wiltshire
Time Commitment: Wednesday evenings (20:30–22:00) & match days where possible
Remuneration: Paid position with competitive hourly rates
Start Date: Pre-season 2025 (or earlier by mutual agreement)

1 About the Team

Our Men’s 1st XI features a strong mix of seasoned players and promising juniors, many of whom are involved in local hockey academies. We are focused on fostering a high-performance culture, with the ambition of winning promotion and building a strong performance section across the men’s side of the club.

2 The Role

The coach will be responsible for:

Planning and delivering weekly performance-focused training (Wednesdays, 20:30–22:00)
Leading and managing the Men’s 1st Team through the season
Attending and coaching Saturday league fixtures, where possible
Supporting individual player development, especially younger academy players
Working with club leadership on selection, performance tracking, and development planning
Collaborating with captains and performance leaders
There is the potential for this role to evolve into Head of the Men’s Section, providing strategic oversight and development for all men’s teams.

3 What We’re Looking For

Previous coaching experience with adult or high-level junior teams
EH Level 2 qualification (or working towards it)
Strong leadership and communication skills
Ability to foster both performance and team cohesion
A passion for growing the game and helping players improve

4 Desirable

Experience within regional or national league structures
Coaching experience with academy or development players
DBS check and First Aid training (or willingness to obtain)
