We’re Sevenoaks Hockey Club – one of England’s most established and community-minded clubs. Our Men’s 1st Team play in Division 1 South and in the Premier Division of the National Indoor League. We’re proud of the group we’ve built: a committed squad and a culture that players buy into – and stick with.

Right now, we’re at a key point in our journey – alongside a group of experienced players, we are developing a core of U18 players and welcoming university returners back into the senior environment. We’re looking for a Coach (or Player-Coach) for our Men’s 1st team.

What we’re looking for:

  • You’ll bring solid experience of National League hockey – as a coach or player – and the ability to connect with players of all ages and stages.
  • You’ll know how to bring shape and clarity to a squad, how to develop younger talent, and how to get the best out of a group every week.
  • You’ll also work well with others to keep the whole men’s player pathway joined up and thriving.

The role in a nutshell:

  • Coaching the Men’s 1st Team – training and match days
  • Build a team culture that’s competitive, inclusive and built to last
  • Develop a strong spine of junior and returning university players
  • Liaise closely with the Men’s 2/3s and other men’ coaches as well as the junior coaches to support player progression (junior and senior)
  • Support our indoor programme
  • Develop and grow the team every season

Success looks like:

  • Compete in Div 1 South
  • A confident and resilient squad culture
  • Continued growth and development of the squad and of the individual players (both experienced and younger squad members)
  • Consistent performance on and off the pitch

What’s on offer:

  • Competitive pay depending on experience and role scope
  • A performance-focused, values-driven club environment
  • The option to combine with other paid coaching roles across the club
  • A supportive club culture that values people, not just results

Experience, knowledge, skills and personal qualities:

  • Experience of playing or coaching at National League level or above
  • England Hockey Level 2 qualification (or equivalent) or higher
  • A coaching style that brings out the best in others
  • Personal qualities that include: ambition, enthusiasm, dedication, positivity, good communication skills

The salary will reflect whether the successful candidate takes on one or both roles. Please note: candidates must have the right to work in the UK – we are unable to sponsor a visa for this role.

Send your CV and a short note telling us what excites you about the role to recruitment@sevenoakshockey.club. Please include a short summary of your experience, qualifications and what you’d bring to the role.

The recruitment process will include:

  • An initial call with senior club officials
  • A follow-up formal interview – ideally in person, or by video call if needed
  • An in-person coaching session would be ideal

Key Dates:

We’re reviewing applications as they come in – so if you’re interested, best get in touch soon. Applications will close at 5pm on Friday 27th June 2025.

Safeguarding:

We’re committed to safer recruitment. This role involves working with young adults, so references, self-disclosure and an enhanced DBS check will be required.
