Your mission is to unlock extracellular matrix biology to develop transformative therapeutics in fibrosis and oncology. We are seeking an accomplished Senior Scientist of Macrophage Biology to play a leading role in defining novel targets in the macrophage‑stromal interface. The role involves establishing a high‑throughput monocyte and macrophage supply chain for biology and drug screening groups across the Discovery unit, leading the nomination and validation of new targets at the macrophage‑stromal interface, and contributing to therapeutic impact in both oncology and fibrosis disease areas. You will also be a key member of a team establishing macrophage‑based target screening assays combined with our novel extracellular matrix‑based cell models, utilizing cellular, immunological, biochemical, molecular biology and functional genomic approaches to validate drug targets and novel therapeutic agents.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish high‑throughput supply of monocyte‑derived macrophages for multiple groups across the Engitix organization
- Drive novel macrophage drug target nomination and validation
- Optimize co‑culture assay systems based on stromal‑macrophage interface in 2D and 3D platforms for drug screening
- Optimize macrophage target screening‑based systems utilizing functional genomic approaches such as siRNA and CRISPR
- Analyze, interpret, report and present results
Your profile
Key Experience
- Demonstrable expertise in macrophage biology, particularly phagocytosis pathways
- Demonstrable experience in immuno‑oncology and/or fibrosis research
- Expertise in the use of multi‑colour flow cytometry and immunofluorescence techniques on tissue sections
- Hands‑on experience of key immunological and molecular biology techniques including MSD, RNA/DNA extraction, qRT‑PCR, western blotting, siRNA knockdown
Desirable Experience
- Familiarity with molecular pharmacology and oncology drug development
- Prior laboratory research experience in the biotech/pharma industry
Qualifications and Competencies
- PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Immunology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related discipline, plus 3 years’ experience in a drug screening environment; or an MSc plus 6 years of practical experience with a focus on immuno‑oncology or fibrosis
- Ability to plan, execute, and critically assess experiments independently
- Excellent time‑management skills and ability to work to set deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team
- Strong troubleshooting skills, with a methodical approach, high attention to detail, and the ability to maintain accurate records
Why us?
- Be part of a pioneering biotech transforming drug discovery through ECM biology
- Work in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment with opportunities to shape the future of targeted therapeutics
- We offer a competitive package including private medical insurance, pension, bonus, employee perks and more
