Your mission is to contribute to Engitix Therapeutics, a pioneering biotech company dedicated to unlocking extracellular matrix (ECM) biology to develop transformative therapeutics in fibrosis and oncology. We are seeking an accomplished Scientist to play a key role in the development and execution of biochemical and cell-based assays to support drug discovery activities. This is an exciting fully lab-based role in which we are looking for a scientist with strong experience in assay development within a drug discovery setting.
You will contribute across the discovery cascade, from target validation through to biologics/small molecule profiling, to enable progression of therapeutic programmes. In this role you will apply innovative experimental approaches to interrogate pathway biology, validate novel targets, and characterise candidate drugs in fibrosis and oncology. Interest or experience in ECM biology is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities- Apply a range of molecular, cellular, and biochemical techniques to investigate mechanism of action and pathway biology
- Design, develop, optimise, and troubleshoot robust biochemical and cell-based assays to support target validation, screening, and biologics / small molecule characterisation
- Perform pharmacological profiling of compounds, including dose-response studies and data interpretation (e.g. IC₅₀/EC₅₀ analysis)
- Establish and maintain mono and co-cultures of primary cells and cell lines
- Contribute to ongoing research on oncology and fibrosis drug discovery projects
- Independently analyse, interpret, report and present results
- Demonstrable experience in cell-based and biochemical assay development within a drug discovery context
- Experience generating and interpreting pharmacological data (e.g. dose-response analysis)
- Experience working with primary cells and/or complex cellular systems (e.g. co-cultures)
- Hands-on experience of relevant techniques such as qRT-PCR, ELISA/Luminex/MSD, western blotting, flow cytometry and cell-based functional assays
- Practical experience in either immuno‑oncology or fibrosis would be an advantage
- Prior industry experience in biotech/pharma (2+ years) is strongly preferred
- PhD in Biomedical sciences, Immunology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or related discipline or MSc plus 2 years practical experience in cellular/molecular biology, molecular pharmacology or cancer/fibrosis biology
- The post holder will be good at troubleshooting, methodical, well organised, pay close attention to detail, and maintain accurate records
- Able to plan, execute and critically assess experiments independently
- Excellent time‑management skills and ability to work to set deadlines
- Work well within a team and in matrix environment, with strong written and verbal communication skills
