Engitix Therapeutics is a pioneering biotech dedicated to unlocking extracellular matrix biology to develop transformative therapies in fibrosis and oncology. We are seeking a Scientist or Senior Scientist (12âmonth fixedâterm contractor) to provide expert histology and tissueâbased target validation support across our discovery pipeline.
Your mission
In this role, you will apply histology, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence approaches to characterise therapeutic targets in diseaseârelevant models and human tissues. Your work will generate highâquality data to support discovery programmes and inform decision making. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced industry scientist to contribute handsâon, impactful science across multiple programs in a dynamic biotech environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute experiments to confirm and characterise therapeutic target expression using tissueâbased approaches.
- Lead handsâon delivery of histology, immunohistochemistry (IHC) and immunofluorescence studies to assess target expression, localisation, and regulation in diseaseârelevant models and human tissues.
- Analyse, interpret and present histological data to support target validation and discovery decision making.
- Optimise and apply advanced tissue technologies such as multiplex IF, digital pathology and image analysis workflows.
- Maintain robust, reproducible and well documented histology workflows.
- Ensure high standards of data integrity, quality and traceability in line with Engitix standards.
- Provide histology expertise to discovery teams, working closely with biologists, programme leads and data scientists.
- Communicate results clearly to internal stakeholders to support scientific decisions.
Education
PhD (or equivalent experience) in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Pathology, or related discipline.
Experience
- 3-5+ years' experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry (Scientist: 3+ years; Senior Scientist 5+ years), with strong handsâon expertise in histology and tissueâbased target expression studies.
- Experience supporting drug discovery programmes with histological data.
- Practical experience with digital pathology and image analysis platforms (e.g. HALO, Visiopharm and Vectra).
- A strong understanding of relevant regulations and ethical guidelines related to biospecimen research, including HTA and GDPR requirements.
