Your mission is to support Engitix Therapeutics, a London-based biotechnology company focused on unlocking the extracellular matrix (ECM) as a source of novel therapeutic targets for fibrosis and cancer. We are looking for a detail-driven Biospecimens Coordinator to take ownership of the daily operations of our human tissue repository.
What You’ll Do
- Biospecimens Management
- Procure, register and store biological samples in line with Engitix SOPs.
- Maintain an accurate, up-to-date biospecimen inventory using LIMS, ensuring full traceability.
- Coordinate with project teams to track samples, provide access, and deliver regular inventory updates.
- Manage distribution of samples to internal and external stakeholders while safeguarding traceability.
- Identify and resolve sourcing issues in collaboration with project teams.
- Implement continuous improvements to enhance efficiency and quality of biological sample operations.
- Quality & Compliance
- Maintain SOPs, quality systems, and best practices for biospecimen handling.
- Ensure compliance with HTA, GDPR, research ethics, and company health & safety standards.
- Undertake regular internal biorepository audits and provide support for external inspections.
- Data & Documentation
- Ensure accurate annotation and metadata capture for all biospecimens.
- Collaborate with Data Sciences team to integrate sample data into research pipelines.
- Generate reports on biobank utilisation, inventory status, and operational metrics.
- Collaboration & Leadership
- Anticipate and align stakeholder needs across programmes, accelerating access to biological samples for impactful research.
- Coordinate sample shipments and manage courier relationships.
- Train and mentor staff to maintain technical excellence and compliance with SOPs and best practices while handling biological specimens.
Your profile
- BSc in Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or related field.
- Minimum 2+ years’ experience in research tissue banking, sample management, and laboratory operations. Industry experience is desirable.
- Proven experience working within regulatory frameworks for human biospecimen acquisition and use (experience of HTA regulations preferred).
- In-depth knowledge of biospecimen processing and quality assurance practices.
- Proficiency with biobank information management systems (e.g., LIMS).
- Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Adaptability skills, we work in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to effectively manage sample procurement and operational resources.
- Practical experience with laboratory techniques involving biological samples is desirable.
