What are we looking for?
We are looking for people with a genuine interest in construction and the built environment. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and ambitious, with the potential to progress to a supervisory/management role over a five-to-ten-year period.
Key responsibilities:
- Completion of planned preventative and corrective maintenance activities in a timely manner to minimise equipment downtime.
- Maintain records of works completed and support processes.
- Adhere to all safety related documentation (Safe Systems of Work, Visual Task Sheets & Risk Assessments/Permits to work etc.) for all maintenance activities.
- Strong & proactive communication with site team.
- Support management with root cause problem solving exercises.
- Timesheets submitted in a timely manner to management.
- Task sheets completed on time and to the required level of detail.
- Improvement in plant availability.
- Play your part in a reduction on overall maintenance spend year on year by suggested alternative ways.
- Remain legally compliant and provide safe operations.
Key skills:
- Strong maintenance background with excellent understanding of heavy plant machinery ranging from excavators, telehandlers, dumpers & rollers etc. (OEM understanding for JCB and Komatsu machines preferred.)
- Strong problem solving skills and the ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining best practice H&S standards.
- A key measure – turnaround time on assets allowing the company to generate higher revenues from asset availability.

Apprenticeship level and standard:
Construction equipment maintenance mechanic / Skills England Apprenticeship provider Norfolk block release (travel required on a Sunday evening). Laing O'Rourke collaborates with trusted and approved training providers for our apprenticeship delivery. Successful candidates will be enrolled by Laing O'Rourke during the onboarding stage.
Entry requirements:
- Eligibility without restrictions to work in the UK. We cannot offer visa sponsorship for this role.
- Full mobility to enable travel to various project locations.
- GCSE 3-9 (old A-D) in Maths and English. We can also accept a Functional Skills L1 or above where an applicant has taken Maths and English qualifications after school.
