The position offers a unique opportunity to apply your expertise in underwriting to develop and refine risk appetite, determine appropriate rules and terms, and deliver profitable growth while managing insurance risk.

You'll play a critical role in translating strategic objectives into practical guidelines and processes for use by our Agents and Underwriters, ensuring consistency and optimal performance. Your responsibilities will include deep dives into data and metrics to understand performance deviations and inform strategy adjustments. You'll manage a defined segment of the farming account, taking a holistic approach to customer management that goes beyond individual insurance classes. This proactive involvement not only enhances the role's impact within the organisation but also offers you the chance to engage with key stakeholders externally and across different divisions internally.

As the technical point of referral, you'll handle complex cases and referrals, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and fair outcomes for our members. Additionally, your input will be crucial in helping shape the future risk mix and setting clear strategies for our front line underwriting teams. The role will also give you the opportunity to enhance your industry knowledge by attending farm shows, trade exhibitions, and conferences, gaining valuable insights and awareness of market trends.

We're seeking an experienced underwriting professional with a strong technical background in Farm insurance. You will have demonstrable ability to effectively manage underwriting accounts and portfolios as well as input into the underwriting agenda and risk appetite. If you have prior experience or exposure to underwriting renewables risks, that would be beneficial, however it is not an essential requirement for the role.

  • Extensive experience: A proven track record in general insurance underwriting, particularly in managing risk selection and account performance.
  • Technical expertise: Strong technical skills in underwriting Farm products, with a good understanding of wider functions such as pricing.
  • Analytical skills: Proficient in data analysis and report writing, enabling strategic decision making and insight generation.
  • Presentation skills: Excellent presentation abilities, capable of communicating complex ideas clearly and persuasively to a range of audiences.
  • Stakeholder management and Influencing skills: Strong relationship-building and influencing skills, adept at managing diverse stakeholders and fostering collaborative environments.
  • Problem solving and critical thinking: Ability to analyse complex challenges, identify key issues, and develop effective solutions.

At NFU Mutual, we support an inclusive workplace and value all the differences that make us unique. We celebrate the creativity and innovation that comes from diverse perspectives and experiences and share a common vision of doing the right thing for our customers and employees.
