Senior Knowledge Lawyer – Financial Regulation (Wholesale Banking)
Addleshaw Goddard’s Financial Regulation Team is one of the largest in the UK, ranked Tier 1 in Chambers and Partners. The team consists of a mix of lawyers and compliance professionals split over Leeds, London, and Scotland.
This role involves working with our Partners, including Tess Kelly, James Greig, and Grace Wyatt, focused on advising banks, building societies, investment firms, financial market infrastructure, and participants in wholesale financial markets on prudential regulation and firms with digital assets businesses. We have a strong focus on supporting our clients in meeting their regulatory requirements including in relation to capital and liquidity, operational resilience, recovery and resolution planning, ring-fencing, governance and risk management, and emerging digital assets regulation. We also advise on markets, clearing, and settlement, including the regulation of exchanges and trading platforms.
What You’ll Do:
- You will be an ambitious and dynamic individual excited by the prospect of establishing this newly created Senior Knowledge Lawyer role , with a particular focus on supporting colleagues in our growing prudential regulation and digital asset practices.
- You will be enthused about playing a central role in the building of new practice areas and the supporting infrastructure and you are pragmatic, delivery focused, and a team player. You are comfortable working across disciplines and jurisdictions with lawyers and colleagues in central services roles.
- You will have expertise in financial services regulation and want to build your own market profile including as a recognised thought leader and represent the firm at external fora. You will play an active role in contributing to, executing and delivering the team’s business development strategy, including sharing your insights with clients face to face.
- Within the firm, you will play a leading role in assisting on the delivery of the Financial Services Sector Strategy and support co-ordination across practice areas in that delivery.
Who We’re Looking For:
- Demonstrable ability of accurately understanding and communicating changes in law and regulations to colleagues and clients in a commercial context.
- Significant, relevant experience, typically as a qualified solicitor or barrister with expertise in financial regulation. A senior lawyer from private practice, in-house or a regulator with expertise in prudential regulation or digital assets would be well suited to this role.
- A committed team player with a delivery focused mindset.
In addition to the above, the following will be an advantage:
- Experience of designing and delivering effective training sessions (ideally both in person and online).
- Excellent skills in both legal drafting and writing compelling, commercially-focused content for external publication.
- Relevant experience of organising or co-ordinating people, processes and IT systems resources to scope and deliver projects effectively.
- Experience of working directly with clients, particularly in-house lawyers at all levels, to scope and deliver knowledge management solutions.
- Supervisory experience and experience of defining work processes and ‘best practice’ approaches.
