Principal Technical Energy Project Manager, EMEA Energy & Water Resources
Sector: Project and Program Management, Utilities, Oil, Gas and Energy
Role: Manager
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: Full Time
DESCRIPTION
The EMEA Energy & Water Resources team is focused on the delivery of secure, sustainable, clean and affordable energy and water infrastructure to support the needs of existing and future customers of AWS as they migrate and expand their interaction with the Cloud. The energy that AWS runs on comes in a variety of forms: electricity is the workhorse, powering data centres, drawn from a grid connection providing secure power and backed off with cost-effective energy supply and renewables credentials.
AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain – and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.
You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
This role will be based in London, UK. Expected travel would be 40%, domestic and international.
In this role, you will develop energy strategies to scale our grid connected data centres, identify and analyse energy generation and storage technologies and innovations, support the design, execution and implementation of sustainable power solutions and maintain a deep understanding of barriers to growth and risks associated with the energy sector as we develop products and projects to support our customers.
The candidate will require to maintain a detailed understanding of energy markets across the EMEA region, and an in-depth appreciation of the variables impacting those markets from a technological, network (grid), policy and regulatory perspective. They will also require to appraise technology readiness, and identify how those technologies can resolve barriers to growth in support of our customers as we transition from a grid designed to accommodate fossil fuel generation to one transitioning to renewable generation. Developing commercial propositions and projects incorporating those new technologies as we transition to a cleaner, and greener, electricity grid will be a key output of this role. The optimal candidate will be a pragmatic visionary with a results orientated approach, experienced in developing and delivering pioneering projects, have an analytical skill set, strong financial acumen and a track record of working with utilities, regulators and developers across the energy industry.
