The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Lead Senior Structural Engineer to join our Consulting Structures Team. This is a hybrid role with shared office space in our Birmingham office.

Amey Consulting has been appointed as the design partner for two regions of National Highways\’ 6-year Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF), the largest and most comprehensive renewals programme ever launched by the government-owned company. The Midlands Region SDF includes over 2,000 large bridges and culverts.

The role

As a Lead Senior Structural Engineer , you will provide effective support and assistance to your Design Team Leader on a variety of highways drainage schemes while taking the lead on projects and mentoring junior designers. Responsibilities include:

1. Leading a team to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
2. The preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost, and programme.
3. Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions.
4. Responsibility for the commercial success of the projects within their portfolio, controlling budgets and managing the costs associated with the production of deliverables.
5. Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries, etc.
6. Significantly contributing to the preparation of bids and the general work-winning function.
7. Driving effective health and safety practices within the team.

What you will bring to us:

1. Developed experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, probably gained in a Senior Engineer role or equivalent.
2. Able to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working unsupervised and supervising more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks.
3. Experienced in undertaking project-related tasks associated with the management of health, safety, and welfare.
4. Capable of acting as day-to-day main engineering contact for a project where required under the terms of the commission.
5. Knowledge, understanding, and experience of design and specification process with the ability to advise others.
6. Highly experienced with relevant software and similar analytical tools.
7. Has a very good understanding of CDM and risk assessment.
8. Capable of acting as Principal Designer for appropriate projects.
9. Supervisory and people manager skills.
10. Incorporated or Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence gained through the professional institution is desirable and may be essential on particular contracts.
