Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out functional assessments with claimants face-to-face, via video and telephone to assess their ability to undertake activities of daily living.
  • Ask focused questions, use active listening and critical reasoning skills to gather accurate information during the assessment process.
  • Produce high-quality, structured clinical reports on all claimants assessed for submission to the DWP.
  • Review evidence, request and evaluate additional evidence when required, and clinically triage cases to determine the correct assessment pathway.
  • Work alongside other highly experienced clinical colleagues to ensure high-quality and fair assessments for all claimants.

Candidate Profile:

  • Registered as NMC-registered adult nurse (RGN, RMN, RNLD) or HCPC-registered physiotherapist, occupational therapist or paramedic.
  • Minimum of 12 months post‑qualification and registration experience; have practiced as a clinician for the last 12 months in the UK.
  • Excellent communication and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Confidence in using computers and learning different software packages to complete detailed, high-quality reports for all claimants assessed.
  • Open to a formalised programme of training to become a DWP approved Functional Assessor.
  • Receptive to ongoing constructive feedback and dedicated to ensuring claimants continually receive the very best experience.
  • Thrives in a structured working environment and is comfortable using technology.
