The role SSEN Transmission are seeking an exceptional leader for the role of Director of Onshore Capital Delivery, responsible for delivering a major portfolio of £15bn+ in large capital projects by 2030. This is a unique opportunity to lead one of the UK's most significant capital investment programmes, driving the transition to a low-carbon future.

Reporting to the Managing Director of SSEN Transmission, you will be responsible for the construction and delivery of the onshore portfolio of our Pathway to 2030 Programme. You'll be a key member of the Transmission Executive Committee, sharing collective responsibility for setting out business vision and strategy as well as driving performance across the Transmission business to ensure its future success.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Leading a team of circa 300 direct employees as well as the wider Supply Chain in the design, construction, delivery and commissioning of Onshore Projects, ensuring compliance with SSEN Transmission's Large Capital Projects (LCP) governance and Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) standards.
  • Developing and embedding a strong safety culture across staff and the Supply Chain, leading on SHE performance across the Onshore portfolio.
  • Responsible for the control and forecasting of circa £3bn on average in annual project capital spend over the next 5 years, ensuring alignment with business plans and financial targets.
  • Developing key relationships at exec level with Supply Chain Partners to enable efficient programme delivery, ensuring that safety, cost control and reporting fully complies with SSEN Transmission requirements.
  • Representing SSEN Transmission when required at Group Executive Committee, LCP Committee, and Group SHE Committee and at a senior level with external Bodies, shaping policies and ensuring strategic alignment.

About You

We're seeking a dynamic, strategic, and experienced leader with a proven track record in delivering large, multi-disciplinary capital projects in energy, utilities, or a similar infrastructure sector. You will have:

  • Extensive leadership experience, overseeing the design, construction and delivery of large, complex, multi-billion-pound infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated ability in leading large, geographically dispersed, multi-disciplinary teams of both employees and contractors.
  • Strong working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and associated guidance with proven experience of developing and maintaining a high performing safety culture.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence a wide range of internal and external senior stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial acumen, including experience in contract negotiation, supplier performance management, and regulatory compliance with expertise in project management methodologies (APM, PMI) and contract management (FIDIC, NEC3).
