- Profile Summary
The Debt Syndicate team's primary role is to provide pricing, execution strategy and tactics for specific proposed transactions for Mizuho clients.
The team also liaises with other Mizuho group syndicate teams, underwrites debt transactions, executes MTNs and private placements, manages risk positions and communicates with other banks' syndicate desks to provide seamless execution for clients' bond issues.
Debt Syndicate is responsible for liaising between traders, sales, DCM and derivatives' teams, and engages both investors and issuers in the pursuit of cutting-edge market intelligence to provide appropriate execution advice to clients.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead execution of primary debt transactions, including pricing guidance, order book management and allocation under senior oversight.
- Develop transaction structures, sizing recommendations, maturity profiles and pricing strategies.
- Assist in underwriting processes and risk management by preparing approvals and monitoring positions within delegated limits.
- Strengthen relationships with institutional issuers and investors to provide market updates.
- Coordinate with Sales, Trading, DCM and other syndicate desks to ensure smooth communication and timely execution.
- Contribute to cross-team collaboration by sharing market intelligence and identifying opportunities for integrated solutions.
- Prepare market commentary and pricing analysis to inform origination strategy and client pitches.
- Provide guidance and informal mentoring to junior team members to build technical capability.
- Dual Hat Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsibilities will straddle both Mizuho International (MHI) and Mizuho Bank (MHBK)
- Adhere to the Dual Hat Policies & Procedures which set out the permitted activities and ensure you conduct yourself accordingly, when acting in a dual hat capacity
- Responsibility for identifying and resolving where there may be a difference or conflict in needs, between MHI and MHBK, escalating where required.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- Solid experience in debt capital markets or fixed income syndicate with a strong focus on transaction execution.
- Good understanding of underwriting processes, risk management principles and regulatory requirements for primary issuance.
- Commercial awareness and ability to contribute to client pitches and support origination efforts.
- Developing network of issuer and investor contacts with the ability to build and maintain relationships.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple transactions under tight timelines.
- Clear and confident communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders and external clients.
- Degree-level education; professional qualifications (e. g., CFA) beneficial but not essential.
