The Commercial Manager Opportunity

Laing O'Rourke are currently recruiting a Commercial Manager to join the team in Chelmsford.

We have been appointed as construction partner for National Grid's Great Grid Partnership programme, which forms part of a supply chain framework that will also support infrastructure projects beyond 2030.

What will the role look like?

  • Lead the commercial management of allocated project areas, ensuring cost, cash, margin and commercial targets are achieved.
  • Manage live subcontract packages, including commercial performance, valuations, payments, change and contractual obligations.
  • Draft, manage, negotiate and close out subcontracts, claims and commercial agreements.
  • Identify, price and manage change, ensuring an effective change control process is maintained.
  • Provide commercial and contractual advice to project teams, identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Prepare and manage monthly cost reports, forecasts, contract reviews and BPR information.
  • Support the establishment and ongoing management of project budgets from contract award.
  • Negotiate with clients, subcontractors and consultants to achieve successful commercial outcomes.
  • Proactively identify and communicate commercial risks, issues and opportunities to senior management.
  • Lead, mentor and support the wider Commercial team, including Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Quantity Surveyors.

What skills & experience are we looking for?

  • Experience managing live subcontract packages under NEC contracts.
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying; RICS membership is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience working on power, energy or infrastructure projects.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to manage commercial risk while driving project performance.
