The Opportunity:

Select Modular Accommodation, part of the Laing O’Rourke Group, are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CAD Design Manager with experience in modular building design to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), with the ability to create precise and efficient designs for modular structures, ensuring all projects are completed in accordance with client specifications, local building codes, and industry standards.

What will the role look like?

1. Design & Drafting: Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD models of modular building components, including floor plans, elevations, structural systems, and other necessary elements. Ensure designs meet project requirements and specifications.
2. Collaboration: Work closely with clients and project managers to understand project scope and design requirements. Participate in design review meetings and contribute innovative ideas to improve functionality and cost-effectiveness.
3. Technical Drawings: Prepare detailed technical drawings and specifications for modular building components, including structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Ensure that all drawings are in compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
4. Modular System Design: Design efficient modular layouts that facilitate easy assembly and disassembly, considering factors such as transportability, scalability, and site-specific requirements.
5. Documentation & Revisions: Maintain and organize design documents, drawings, and revisions. Update and modify designs based on feedback from stakeholders, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
6. Quality Assurance: Ensure that all designs comply with industry standards, local building codes, and safety regulations. Perform design verification and quality checks to maintain high design standards.
7. Software Utilization: Proficient use of CAD software (AutoCAD, Solidworks, or similar) to create high-quality and accurate designs. Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) is a plus.
8. Project Coordination: Coordinate with the manufacturing team to ensure design feasibility and smooth transition from design to production. Address any design challenges that arise during the production or construction phases.

What skills & experience are we looking for?

1. Education: Appropriate degree in Engineering/Design or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
2. Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in CAD design, specifically in modular buildings or prefabricated construction. Experience in designing for temporary and permanent modular structures is highly preferred.
3. Technical Skills: Proficient in CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, or similar). Experience with BIM software is a plus.
4. Knowledge: Strong understanding of building codes, regulations, and best practices in modular construction. Familiarity with sustainable building practices and materials is advantageous.
5. Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and accuracy in design and technical documentation.
6. Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot design issues and suggest practical solutions to ensure project timelines and specifications are met.
7. Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and clients.
8. Project Management: Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
