About the role

What does the average day look like?

A typical day involves the collation, cleansing, and transformation of datasets such as project milestones, project finances, and organisational information. You'll produce and evolve reports for a variety of stakeholders, analysing their data to provide insights that help teams make informed decisions. You will maintain work instructions, gather reporting feedback, and drive continuous improvement. You will be involved in enforcing governance over various project and data processes, acting as a subject matter expert to drive improvement across the wider team.

A little bit about the team...

You'll be joining the Strategic Planning & Controls (SP&C) team as one of three Business Information & Reporting Analysts. Along with Planners and other roles, this team of around nine people provides data, reporting and governance support across the Innovation, Delivery & Improvement (IDI) team's wide range of projects and programmes. These projects enable the organisation and wider industry to deliver change, realise benefits and meet strategic objectives, and they fall into three main categories:

• Compliance - programmes aimed at achieving compliance with legislation or policy.
• Strategic - deliver a clearly defined vision that realises strategic opportunities and may change the operating model.
• Emergent - evolve to respond to situations or events that are often beyond the organisation's immediate control.

In IDI we have a friendly and welcoming team environment and put a strong emphasis on learning and continuously improving.

In a broader context, IDI sits within the Technical Authority (TA) function, under its Chief Technology Officer. TA provides Network Rail with technical expertise, including competence and assurance regimes, in various disciplines including engineering, health and safety, security, environment and sustainability, and technology on the railway.

Your experience and skills

Who are we looking for?

We're looking for data-focused professional with strong analytical and communication skills.

You will be confident working with information from multiple sources, along with strong Microsoft Excel skills.

In creating reports, you will be experienced in considering how best to present information, so as to communicate effectively via the structure and aesthetics of the report.

You will have the problem-solving and stakeholder management skills to proactively identify issues in processes, propose possible solutions and implement them across the wider team.

An ideal candidate would also understand how to interpret, establish and control Scorecards and KPIs, their definitions/calculations and the governance structures that surround them. Experience in project support or PMO environments would also be beneficial.

Essential Criteria

• HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject
• Experience of extracting information and reporting from multiple sources, including databases
• Excellent communication and analytical skills, with proven ability to present information effectively and appropriately
