About the role: We're looking for an Asset Engineer (Track) to join our team, playing a vital role in keeping our railway safe, reliable and efficient for everyone who uses it. In this role, you'll provide a comprehensive Track and Rail engineering support service across Wessex, helping ensure our assets are maintained to the highest standards and continuously improving how we do things. What you'll be doing:

  • You’ll work closely with engineers across the route, supporting them to operate safely, effectively and in line with best practice.
  • Provide assurance that Track engineering maintenance regimes are being followed in line with company policies, standards and specifications.
  • Support delivery units by providing a Track engineering support service, flexing your support across other areas when needed.
  • Deliver and support technical briefings, helping engineers understand not just the what, but the why behind standards and specifications.
  • Monitor technical competence, supporting the ongoing development of engineers within your delivery units.
  • Review and comment on derogations and non-compliance applications related to Track standards.
  • Provide guidance to support engineers in developing business-focused renewals proposals.
  • Contribute to audit programmes, providing Track engineering input to strengthen maintenance assurance.

Your experience and skills:

Essential:

  • HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject.
  • Working towards membership of a relevant professional institution.
  • Experience in Track engineering, particularly rail management.
  • Knowledge of Ultrasonics, Welding and Lubrication processes and standards.
  • An understanding of the maintenance of Track assets.
  • Knowledge of the relevant technical, safety and performance standards.
  • Holds relevant professional licences and technical qualifications, or capable of achieving within reasonable timescales.
  • Holds valid UK driving licence, or eligible and willing to obtain.

Desirable:

  • Degree in a relevant subject.
  • Incorporated or Chartered Engineer.
  • Understanding and experience of railway infrastructure maintenance.
  • Experience of undertaking engineering assurance activities, including competence assessment.
