My client, a leading Tier 1 civil engineering contractor, is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team near Perth (excellent hybrid working conditions on offer). This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of key commercial functions, work closely with subcontract partners, and help drive the commercial success of a high-profile project.

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will play a vital role in managing the commercial and contractual aspects of the project. You will be responsible for the administration of subcontract packages, cost control, forecasting, reporting, and supporting the wider delivery team with accurate and timely commercial information. You will act as the commercial contact for your section of the work, ensuring that best-practice commercial processes are followed and that risks, costs, and opportunities are effectively managed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial Management
    • Oversee the full commercial administration of subcontract packages, including procurement, preparation of enquiries, assessment of quotations, payments, variations, and final accounts.
    • Ensure robust contract management in line with company policies and project requirements.
    • Support dispute resolution activities by providing accurate commercial records and evidence when required.
    • Maintain excellent working relationships with clients, supply chain partners, and internal teams.
  • Cost Control & Reporting
    • Monitor project costs, comparing actual spend against budget allowances and identifying variances.
    • Provide recommendations for cost efficiencies and value-engineering opportunities.
    • Produce monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs) with detailed commentary.
    • Prepare quarterly budgets and financial forecasts for internal review.
    • Develop accurate cost estimates for task orders, variations, and change control processes.
  • Team Collaboration & Support
    • Provide guidance and support to junior commercial team members, assisting with their development and reviewing their work.
    • Work closely with operational and engineering teams to ensure full alignment on commercial matters.

About You

  • Relevant professional qualification (HNC/HND, Degree, or equivalent).
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to other depots/sites when required.
