MULTI-SKILLED MAINTENANCE ENGINEER Glasgow / Scotland-wide | Up to £65,000 + Company Van (Personal Use) Up to £65,000 plus a company van with personal use, no call-out or standby rota attached Report directly to the Managing Director of a growing, £3 million turnover business, not several layers down an org chart Genuine variety of work: planned maintenance overhauls one week, hands-on install and fabrication projects the next, never the same task on the same line for years on end THE CLIENT This is a privately owned, family-run engineering business with an annual turnover of around £3 million, built up steadily over three generations and now investing in bringing more of its work in-house. The business is cash-generative and expanding, and this hire is a deliberate move: rather than continuing to rely on an expensive subcontractor to cover this work, the Managing Director wants to build it into a permanent, dedicated position, someone who becomes a genuine fixture in the business rather than an outside pair of hands brought in as needed. That matters for what this role actually is. You won't be one engineer among dozens in a large maintenance department, reporting up through several layers of management before your work gets noticed. You'll report directly to the MD, your work will be visible, and you'll have a real say in how the maintenance function develops as the business grows around it. THE ROLE The core of the job is planned mechanical maintenance, structured around scheduled overhauls rather than reactive breakdown work: stripping down and rebuilding conveyor systems, replacing chains, bearings, sprockets and gearboxes. It's all planned preventative maintenance and planned shutdowns, there's no call-out or standby rota attached to this role, so your time outside working hours is genuinely your own. Where this role stands apart from a typical in-house maintenance job is the breadth of it. When planned maintenance work is quieter, you'll be pulled into the business's wider install and fabrication projects, structural steelwork, platforms, and general fabrication-adjacent work, so you're never doing the same narrow task on the same line for years on end. The work also covers client sites across Scotland rather than one fixed factory, so no two weeks look quite the same. ABOUT YOU You're a mechanically-biased engineer with a background maintaining machinery in a bottling hall or similar food and drink production environment, ideally, though a similar conveyor-based production environment with comparable kit will also be considered. You're experienced enough to work independently and manage your own priorities without someone looking over your shoulder, and you're not precious about staying in one lane: you're just as comfortable turning your hand to install or fabrication-adjacent work as you are to core maintenance, and you'd rather have that variety than do the same job in the same building every day.
