  • Own the design, build and control system of a cutting-edge, world-changing technology with a major sustainability impact.
  • Be part of a well-funded Scottish tech start-up that is growing globally, in European and American markets.
  • The chance to grow with the business: as it scales, so will your career.

THE CLIENT

A business that helps farmers save serious money and time on crops that are notoriously hard to harvest, using AI-guided machinery, while turning the part of the crop that is normally thrown away into an ingredient that makes everyday ready meals healthier. It works for growers on one side and for food manufacturers on the other, and both get a result they could not get before.

For growers, the machine takes on work that would normally need a whole crew of seasonal pickers, making its own cutting decisions in a fraction of a second. For food manufacturers, the ingredient made from what is left behind gives familiar products such as ready meals, burgers and sausages a healthier profile, and helps move them towards a better front-of-pack rating. Major UK food manufacturers and supermarkets are already working with the business.

The technology has been through years of development and has come through its commissioning trials this season. The business is backed by significant investment, is setting up its own production operation locally in Dundee, and has the funding and the ambition to take the product to market globally. It is a rare thing to find a technology that is proven in the field and still early enough that the people building it shape where it goes next.

THE ROLE

You will be the person who decides how the machine sees, thinks and acts. The role covers the electronics and control system behind a piece of AI-assisted agricultural machinery: the sensing and imaging that spot what is ready to cut, the controllers that act on it, the steering and drive systems, and everything that connects them. You will own that system from design through build to testing, not work on one small corner of it.

Because the machine is moving from proven prototype towards a product that is ready for market, your work goes straight into something real. You will be improving the speed and accuracy of its decisions, taking on new functions that the machine will carry out itself, and making the electronics robust enough for life in a working field. Every improvement you make is felt quickly by the engineers beside you and by the growers using the machine.

You will work alongside mechanical design engineers and an electrical and electronics specialist in a small engineering team, where your ideas are heard and put in place rather than lost in a process. xgikmsk You will test your own designs in real crops, on real farms, and see the results the same week. As the Dundee operation grows and the technology reaches more farms and m
