Due to continued commercial success, our Engineering Business Unit is looking to recruit a Protection & Control Engineer to join its growing Engineering Team. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Protection & Control Engineer to join this highly respected consultancy team. The team delivers leading-edge technical consultancy in the areas of Protection, Power Systems Analysis and Electrical Safety. The base location will be either our Teesside regional office, working from home or a combination of both, but would be expected to involve some national travel supporting customers in renewables, transmission & distribution, and other key energy sectors. The role could require site surveys at onshore substations around the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake, oversee and deliver high-quality detailed protection design and engineering projects within the Transmission & Distribution and Renewable sectors.
- Producing design deliverables for grid connection projects between 33kV to 400kV projects including protection schematics, key single line diagrams, specifications, data sheets and other documentation required for electrical protection equipment between 33kV and 400kV.
- Attend all meetings with clients, project team, contractors etc, interacting with clients to achieve project objectives.
- Work alongside the Lead Electrical Engineer in implementing continual improvement processes within the Engineering function, highlighting any issues within the team and general opportunities for improvement as appropriate.
- Assist the Lead Electrical Engineer as required, working with DNO/DSO's.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, clients, suppliers etc.
- Always represent the company in a professional, positive, and diligent manner.
- Regular review and management of assigned projects from inception to completion. Interacting with clients to achieve project objectives.
- Producing high-quality technical reports / notes; discussing and presenting findings to clients where necessary.
- Mentoring and supervision of Graduate Engineers, sharing technical knowledge and experience.
- Plan and supervise the work of the EPS Engineering team to achieve Protection & Control deliverables and objectives relating to quality, progress, and compliance.
- Scoping and interpreting client requirements to prepare and deliver an effective technical solution.
- Appreciation and understanding of relevant UK, European & International standards, legislation, regulations, and codes of practice.
- Develop a thorough knowledge of and compliance with EPS procedures.
- Seek, complete and record evidence of continued professional development in accordance with the requirements of the IET.
- The drive, ambition and commercial acumen to develop EPS and fast-track their role within it.
What We're Looking For:
Skill & Qualifications
- A minimum of a 2.1 Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar from a relevant university.
- Working towards Chartered Engineer status.
- At least 5 years' industry-related experience in an Electrical Engineer capacity. Experience in power engineering and design of transmission and distribution protection and control systems.
- Experience of working with Health, Safety & Environmental Procedures and production of Designer Risk Assessments, as necessary, to fulfil the Company's obligations in compliance with current CDM regulations.
- Proven ability to design protection systems and demonstrate rationale behind proposals.
- Receptive to client needs, with the ability to build an excellent rapport.
- Strong report writing skills, paying attention to detail to produce high-quality documentation.
- Utilises well-developed technical thinking and analytical problem-solving skills, always taking time to establish the accuracy and relevance of information.
- Actively demonstrate initiative and ability to work independently under pressure to meet deadlines efficiently.
