The Role

Engineering Direct are exclusively recruiting for a skilled and motivated Service Engineer to join a dynamic service team. This is a hands-on, customer-facing position requiring both independent and team-based work across a variety of UK sites.

You’ll play a critical role in the inspection, servicing, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and hydraulic lifting equipment, airframe tooling, and plant machinery—both in the workshop and on client sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect and test lifting equipment (on-site and in-house)
  • Conduct safety inspections in compliance with LOLER and PUWER
  • Perform maintenance, servicing, and repair work on ground support equipment and airframe tools
  • Modify and upgrade lifting equipment as required
  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health, safety, and environmental best practices
  • Assist with training and mentoring of junior staff or new starters as needed
  • Produce accurate service reports and documentation
  • Work with a team that values safety, quality, and innovation

The Candidate

  • Eligibility to work in the UK, no sponsorship is available.
  • LEEA qualified or similar industry-recognised certification
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Mechanical Engineering preferred
  • Solid understanding of LOLER and PUWER compliance
  • Advantageous certifications: IPAF, CSCS, Counterbalance forklift
  • Working knowledge of electrical maintenance is a plus
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, including hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
  • Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused attitude
  • Well-organised, self-disciplined, and able to manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Must be willing to travel regularly within the UK (and occasionally overseas)
  • A valid UK driving licence and passport are essential
