The Role
Engineering Direct are exclusively recruiting for a skilled and motivated Service Engineer to join a dynamic service team. This is a hands-on, customer-facing position requiring both independent and team-based work across a variety of UK sites.
You’ll play a critical role in the inspection, servicing, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and hydraulic lifting equipment, airframe tooling, and plant machinery—both in the workshop and on client sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect and test lifting equipment (on-site and in-house)
- Conduct safety inspections in compliance with LOLER and PUWER
- Perform maintenance, servicing, and repair work on ground support equipment and airframe tools
- Modify and upgrade lifting equipment as required
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health, safety, and environmental best practices
- Assist with training and mentoring of junior staff or new starters as needed
- Produce accurate service reports and documentation

The Candidate
- Eligibility to work in the UK, no sponsorship is available.
- LEEA qualified or similar industry-recognised certification
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Mechanical Engineering preferred
- Solid understanding of LOLER and PUWER compliance
- Advantageous certifications: IPAF, CSCS, Counterbalance forklift
- Working knowledge of electrical maintenance is a plus
- Strong mechanical aptitude, including hydraulics and pneumatics
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
- Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused attitude
- Well-organised, self-disciplined, and able to manage multiple tasks effectively
- Must be willing to travel regularly within the UK (and occasionally overseas)
- A valid UK driving licence and passport are essential
