Engineering and Development Solutions Ltd (EDS) are seeking a motivated Graduate Engineer to join our knowledgeable and friendly team based near Truro, Cornwall. Due to an increasing workload, our team is growing quickly and requires additional support to deliver a variety of projects.

The ideal candidate will be a pro-active learner with an eye for detail, ideally interested in Flood Risk and Drainage related projects varying from single property extensions to 100+ housing development schemes across the country. The role will mainly be office based with the opportunity to visit sites to undertake site investigations, walk over surveys and discuss projects with clients from inception to construction stages.

Projects will vary from flood modelling and reporting using HEC-RAS 1D and 2D modelling software for use in Flood Risk Assessments to detailed design using MicroDrainage software to size single soakaways and model complex drainage networks across large housing development projects. A key skill will be the use of AutoCAD software to draft designs and present proposals to clients for a variety of situations including reporting, concept design to detailed construction level design stages.

Full training will be provided for the successful candidate with the opportunity to attend external courses where required. You will have the use of 3D modelling software Site 3D to analyse LiDAR and topographic survey data to build designs on. This integrated with the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D software allows a variety of civil design tasks to be automated and presented using AutoCAD.

Good IT skills with the proficient use of Microsoft office packages is key to organising, presenting, and managing a variable workload. Independent working on individual projects and team working on larger schemes is a day-to-day part of the role with the ideal candidate offering excellent communication skills and a flexible approach to solving complex engineering problems.

Candidates will be supported in the production of the following:

  • Site SuDS plans for single houses; medium to large housing developments; industrial and commercial sites;
  • Foul and surface water drainage strategies;
  • Flood Risk Assessments;
  • Hydraulic Modelling using HEC-RAS and MicroDrainage software;
  • Civil design including access roads; estate roads and retaining walls;
  • Section 104, 185 and 102 agreements with UK Water Companies;
  • Section 278 and 38 agreements with the Highways Authority.

Key Skills and Qualifications for this role are as follows:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental/Science with good mathematics skills;
  • AutoCAD experience; use of HEC-RAS and Microdrainage is desirable, although full training will be provided;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team on multiple projects;
  • Reliable, punctual and self-motivated candidates welcomed;
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office software packages;
  • Full driving licence.
