Engineering @365 is working with an established engineering firm specialising in the design, manufacture, and installation of specialist metalwork/steelwork structures.
Role Overview
We're looking for a Metal Design Engineer to join a growing technical team. You'll bring a strong engineering and metalwork design background, with full training provided on Tekla Structures software. Over time, you'll be responsible for producing accurate 3D models, fabrication drawings, and general arrangement drawings, working closely with engineers, project managers, and workshop teams to ensure efficient project delivery. This is an excellent opportunity for a design engineer looking to specialise in structural detailing software and build a long-term career within a niche, established industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed design drawings and models of metal/steelwork structures, progressing to full 3D modelling in Tekla Structures (training provided).
- Assist in producing fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, GA drawings, and material lists.
- Ensure all drawings adhere to company standards, client specifications, and industry codes.
- Coordinate with engineers, estimators, and project managers to resolve design queries.
- Review and update drawings following client or engineering changes.
- Support the development of standardised drawing processes and templates.
- Help ensure projects meet required deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality.
- Work collaboratively with fabrication and installation teams to ensure a smooth workflow.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience as a Design Engineer, Draughtsperson, or similar within a production/engineering company with experience with metal.
- Good understanding of metal/steel fabrication processes and connection detailing.
- Ability to read and interpret structural/architectural drawings and specifications.
- Experience with CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar) essential.
- 2D design/drafting experience preferred.
- Prior exposure to Tekla Structures is a bonus but not essential, full training will be provided.
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn specialist detailing software.
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a technical team.
