Key Responsibilities
  • Arrange and control all service contracts and services.
  • Arrange all insurance inspections within the required time.
  • Highlight expenditure required in good time and support cap ex requests.
  • Arrange support on Major break downs.
  • Oversee spares for utilities where applicable.
  • Arrange and oversee Pat tests of equipment
  • Arrange and oversee earth bonding in all areas and work with the site on maintaining.
  • Support on electrical projects and machine panels as required and highlight risk.
  • Control major engineering and maintenance project work, including the movement and installation of key items of plant/machinery and contractors.
  • Communicate and report monthly, all developments and improvements on energy savings or waste from equipment, work with the Environmental & Sustainability Co-Ordinator to identify projects to improve energy usage.
  • Manage the security of the site, including buildings, plant, and equipment.
  • Lead on improvement projects that drive the site forward in their goals to be a world-class producer of moulded products.
  • Drive and ensure compliance to our extensive corporate services requirements including ISO and Health & Safety Management Systems.
  • Make sure all people including contractors and site visitors are following all the Health & Safety rules, work permits and wearing PPE etc.
  • Complete 12 written improvement projects per year
  • Work closely with site Health & Safety co-Ordinator so we are up to date on all activities, legionella testing, risks assessments and insurances checks etc.
  • Manage capex projects, including suppliers and contractors including being responsible for projected and actual budget spending for engineering projects.
  • Produce capex narratives for smaller, Repairs & Maintenance, projects for as required and submitting to the Head of HSE & Engineering
  • Maintain all preventive maintenance systems and control your KPI measures to support the site in its overall targets
  • Support all ISO5001 activities and actively explore all energy saving opportunities.

Procedures

  • Provision of monthly reports, showing status of all utilities, costs, risks, and work completed.
  • Track insurance and service dates and plan with site ops planners and safety offices.
  • Maintain the start-up and shutdown procedures to manage for utilities, also to train/assess people against them to ensure we are completing them safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain preventive maintenance systems and KPIs

Communication

  • Encourage improvements.
  • Complete a monthly report explaining all your activities and results
  • Hold monthly meetings as applicable, to drive improvements from your shift
  • Report issues in a timely manner to the correct person, via the correct reporting systems
  • Ensure your team are informed of their personal performance, good or bad.
  • Document any personnel concerns and record all training activity. This will ensure that people understand any concerns and the need to improve. And you are prepared in the event of disciplinary action.
  • Carryout investigatory, disciplinary and grievance hearings when required, working alongside HR
  • Ensure your team communicates issues and work together effectively, to perform at a high level and perform all tasks.
  • Evidence and report fully on any concerns and areas of improvements you wish to address, so that they can be reviewed.

Training

  • Complete people assessments using the appropriate documentation and systems, providing regular and timely feedback to continuously improve performance and skills
  • Deliver training and maintain written procedures on the correct use of equipment and preventive maintenance practises
  • Conduct employee PDRs in line with the annual PDR cycle
  • Ensure all new starters complete training programs and are assessed on every job. Carryout competence tests to assess and demonstrate they understand what to do.
  • Maintain and update skills matrixes, job descriptions for all areas, training packs and competency tests etc.
  • Carryout refresher training as needed
  • Identify and highlight external training needs

Housekeeping

  • Ensure your team maintains a clean, controlled, tidy working environment always
  • Actively demonstrate strong leadership skills.
  • Carry out regular 5s inspections to ensure high standards.
  • Organise painting, cleaning, new signs as and when required, maintaining visual standards in and around your department.

Health & Safety

  • Keep safety as is the main priority and aim for zero LTA/Accidents.
  • Always adhere to the safety procedures, to avoid risks
  • Record any near misses.
  • Using the correct tools and techniques you need to be able to perform firm/strong grasping on a frequent basis and be able to push, pull, and lift to 25 kilos.
  • Ensure no equipment on site is unsafe and all relevant repair work and checks have been completed.
  • Tackle and approach people who do not adhere to Health and Safety rules
  • Ensure all Make sure all personnel complete safety training, both general and specific when dealing with utilitys
  • Ensure safety risk assessments and procedures are in place for all tasks within areas you are responsible for
  • Complete the weekly Health & Safety check sheet and report any things that need attention, also record thing which you may have put right while carrying out the check.
  • Attend health and safety meetings.

Skills & Expertise

  • Proven experience in a similar role (5/10 years)
  • Strong supervisory experience
  • Ability to develop, lead and motivate a team
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills
  • Highly computer literate e.g. Excel/Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience of direct line management
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels
  • Demonstrate experience of making sound judgementunder pressure.

  • Systematic and with high attention to detail
  • Already have developed a career and will probably have held practical roles within a maintenance environment.
  • Strong mechanical or process engineering background that reinforces your extensive know-how of high-end, high-volume injection moulding and assembly.
  • Ability to lead and promote Lean manufacturing initiatives
  • Working knowledge of machinery safety regulations and legislation
  • Ability to make decisions that maximise plant output + efficiency whilst balance those decisions with safety, product quality and cost.
  • Experience of complex 24-hour manufacturing environment essential
  • Knowledge of EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) moulding would be beneficial
Qualifications
  • Skilled engineering apprenticeship
  • Degree in related engineering discipline desirable or equivalent experience
  • IOSH/ NEBOSH
  • Six Sigma
