The Role

We’re working with a leading civil engineering and infrastructure business in Norfolk that’s looking to expand its pre-construction team with a talented Highways Estimator. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced estimator to work on a diverse range of highway construction and maintenance projects—from small civils to major capital works. You’ll play a key role in producing accurate and competitive cost estimates, contributing to the successful delivery of critical infrastructure across the region.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and pricing strategies for highways and infrastructure projects.
  • Analyse technical drawings and specifications to build comprehensive tenders.
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure accurate and up-to-date pricing.
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and cost-saving solutions during the pre-construction phase.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to align pricing with delivery expectations.
  • Attend pre-tender and client meetings as needed.
  • Ensure all estimates meet industry standards and company protocols.
  • Maintain historical data to improve accuracy and forecasting for future bids.
  • Support the handover of successful tenders to delivery teams.

What You’ll Bring

  • 5+ years’ experience in estimating within highways or civil engineering.
  • Excellent working knowledge of highway construction methods, materials, and relevant legislation.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and project documentation.
  • Effective communication skills—both written and verbal.
  • Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying or similar (preferred).
  • Familiarity with estimating software such as Causeway, Candy, or similar.
  • Membership of a professional body such as ICE, RICS or CIHT is desirable.
