The Role
Our client is a well-established civil engineering contractor with a strong reputation for delivering infrastructure projects across highways, bridges, public realm, rail, and utilities. Due to continued growth and a secured pipeline of work through 2025 and beyond, they are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Estimator to join their pre-construction team in Preston. You will take ownership of estimating civil engineering projects typically ranging from £100k to £20m, working closely with design, delivery, and commercial teams to produce robust, competitive tenders from first principles.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Producing accurate first-principles estimates for civil engineering works including earthworks, drainage, ducting, and paving
- Managing bids from early appraisal through to tender submission
- Identifying project risks, opportunities, and key win themes
- Developing construction methodologies and programmes
- Engaging with the supply chain, issuing enquiries, and analysing returns
- Compiling and presenting net cost estimates at internal adjudications
- Supporting post-tender clarification and handover
What You’ll Bring
- Experience as an Estimator or Senior Estimator with a Tier 1 or Tier 2 civil engineering contractor
- Strong first-principles pricing and quantification skills
- Background in highways, bridges, public realm, utilities, or similar civil engineering projects
- Experience using Conquest (desirable) and ASTA Powerproject (beneficial, training available)
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work to deadlines
- Professional membership such as RICS, CIOB, or ICE (desirable)
