The Role
We’re recruiting an experienced Workshop Controller to take day-to-day responsibility for a busy municipal HGV vehicle workshop. This is a hands-on leadership role, combining technical work with workshop control, scheduling, and team coordination. You’ll act as the senior technician on site, ensuring fleet availability, compliance, and high standards of workmanship across a mixed fleet of light and heavy vehicles.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Day-to-day control of a busy HGV municipal workshop and shop floor activity
- Scheduling servicing, repairs and MOTs
- Diagnosing and repairing a varied fleet of vehicles
- Allocating work, authorising jobs and ensuring quality standards are met
- Managing job cards, paperwork and maintenance records accurately
- Controlling parts ordering, stock levels and supplier liaison
- Supporting and motivating workshop staff
- Participating in standby and weekend rotas to ensure workshop cover
What You’ll Bring
- Proven experience in HGV / municipal workshop environments
- Strong technical knowledge
- Experience leading, motivating or organising workshop staff
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Confident using vehicle management / fleet systems
- Strong communication skills with customers and internal teams
- HGV Category C licence
- Apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds, HNC in Automotive Engineering, HGV (or equivalent) preferred
