The Role
Our client is a leading national plant hire business supplying advanced equipment into construction, rail, infrastructure and energy. As part of their continued growth, they are looking to appoint a Group Workshop Manager to lead workshop performance across their depot network. This is a senior leadership role with full accountability for fleet reliability, maintenance strategy, compliance and workshop performance across multiple sites. You will lead Workshop Supervisors and engineering teams, driving uptime, safety standards and operational consistency nationwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead workshop operations across the depot network through Workshop Supervisors
- Own fleet availability, utilisation, compliance and cost control KPIs
- Set and standardise maintenance frameworks, service schedules and operational processes
- Oversee preventative maintenance programmes to maximise uptime
- Manage maintenance budgets, parts control and chargeable damage recovery
- Ensure full compliance with H&S and regulatory requirements
- Work closely with Hire Desk and operational teams to align fleet readiness with demand
- Drive continuous improvement across systems, reporting and workshop performance
- Develop and lead a high-performing technical workforce
What You’ll Bring
- Senior leadership experience within plant hire or heavy equipment operations
- Experience managing multiple workshops and dispersed engineering teams
- Strong technical understanding of heavy plant and fleet maintenance
- Proven track record improving fleet performance and operational efficiency
- Commercial awareness with experience managing budgets and KPIs
- Strong working knowledge of H&S and compliance standards
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Desirable: IOSH or NEBOSH
- Experience with Syrinx
