We are now looking to expand our team with a skilled and confident Car Mechanic to support the continued growth of our busy Essex workshop.
Job Description:
This is a hands-on role focused primarily on the removal and refitting of gearboxes. No gearbox building or internal repair experience is required — this is first and foremost a fitting and removal job. However, any gearbox rebuild or repair experience will be considered a bonus.
It would be advantageous if the successful candidate is able to assist to diagnose and fault-find general vehicle or engine issues when necessary, though the main emphasis is on gearbox removal and refitting for both manual and automatic Gearboxes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Remove and refit manual, semi-automatic, and automatic gearboxes
- Work independently in a professional, well-equipped workshop
- Fault-find and diagnose general vehicle or engine issues when required (not essential but advantageous)
- Ensure all work meets high safety and quality standards
- Communicate clearly with colleagues and workshop management
Candidate Requirements:
- Proven experience as a car mechanic (minimum 5 years preferred)
- Confident and competent working with and around gearbox types, this does not mean rebuilding them. It means being able to remove and refit them.
- Strong mechanical knowledge across a range of vehicles.
- Ability to fault-find and problem-solve general vehicle issues
- Able to work efficiently, independently, and to deadlines
- Full UK driving licence
- Gearbox building experience is not essential, but a strong advantage
