Responsibilities
- Takes team management and leadership role in developing, designing and coordinating engineering project services; assists Directors with business strategy and management.
- Carries out cost and profit diagnosis on projects, including feasibility studies and preparation of project fee proposals.
- Works closely with clients and project teams to establish project requirements.
- Reviews status advised by project personnel and external parties, modifies schedules or plans as required, and prepares project reports for management, client or others.
- Develops and specifies applications of controls, instruments and operating systems for all building engineering services purposes.
- Surveys, tests and reports on existing electrical/mechanical installations.
- Manages fiscal and commercial aspects of projects to ensure they meet target margins.
- Leads hands‑on delivery of monitoring during construction and installation.
- Liaises with existing clients to establish long‑term relationships and future projects, as well as with future prospects for business development.
- Specifies activities to ensure manufacturing, construction, installation and operational testing comply with functional specifications and customer requirements.
- Represents the company at technical meetings with customers, professional teams and contractors.
- Performs engineering calculations to ensure drawings meet required robust industry and legal standards.
- Participates in local office management alongside senior management.
- Supports clients in tendering and procurement of MEP contractors and equipment.
- Leads coordination of engineering services, delivering concept and detail designs.
- Ensures risk and performance monitoring analysis through effective internal control systems.
- Mentors and develops younger engineering team members.
- Produces technical white papers to promote RED’s capabilities.
- Participates in sector management team activities with other team members.
- Conducts surveys and due diligence of existing data centres.
- Presents technical papers at industry events where opportunities arise.
- Takes a holistic view in selecting and applying engineering concepts and solutions.
- Supports delivery of projects in line with the RED Project Delivery Process from a project management, financial, QA/QC and technical review perspective.
- Acts ethically, following the principles of the Ethics Charter and Guidelines of the Group.
Qualifications
- BSc/BEng in an appropriate engineering discipline or BEng General Building Services, or equivalent experience.
- MCIBSE/MIEE or HND/HNC with appropriate experience or equivalent.
- Chartered Eng status.
- Significant experience of specification design for a range of building types.
- Experience managing projects abroad (desirable).
- Sound knowledge and working application of key health and safety issues and legislation.
- Appreciation and working knowledge of contract and business law.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Flexible and self‑motivated work approach.
- Ability to use calculation and spreadsheet software.
- Good understanding of BS standards, UK regulations and codes.
- Experience with invoicing and credit control.
- Ability to prioritise workload.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
