The Head of Origination is a senior leadership role within Energy Management UK (EM UK), responsible for defining and executing the commercial origination strategy across risk management services, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), flexible and structured energy products. The role exists to accelerate growth of ENGIE’s UK origination platform, expand the client base (internal and external), and strengthen ENGIE’s position as a leading partner in the UK’s transition to a net‑zero energy system.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop and implement commercial strategy around risk management services, PPAs, and flexible energy products to generate commercial margins and provide a significant contribution to the profitability of the business unit.
  • Lead, develop, and inspire a team of originators across Power, Gas, PPAs, BESS, structured products, and Biomethane.
  • Drive commercial growth through development of new client relationships and expansion of existing ones, both externally and across ENGIE GBUs.
  • Originate, structure, negotiate, and execute complex energy and risk management transactions, including PPAs and bespoke structured products.
  • Work closely with the Head of Trading, Head of Platform, and EM UK Management Team to ensure alignment between origination, trading, portfolio management, and risk.
  • Maintain hands‑on involvement in key strategic and high‑value deals, providing leadership and expertise throughout the deal lifecycle.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure adherence to ENGIE’s governance, risk, and compliance frameworks.
  • Champion digital advancement and client‑centric approaches within the origination function.
  • Mentor and develop originators at all levels, ensuring a robust pipeline of talent and succession planning.

Outcome, Results and Key Performance Indicators:

  • Sustainable growth in origination revenues and gross margin.
  • Increased volume and diversity of originated contracts (PPAs, structured products, flexibility solutions, biomethane BPA).
  • Expansion and diversification of the UK client base across producers, consumers, investors, funds, and ENGIE internal stakeholders.
  • Successful execution of complex, value‑added transactions aligned with risk appetite.
  • Strong engagement scores, retention, and development of origination talent.
  • Effective collaboration with Trading, Portfolio Management, and support functions resulting in optimised commercial outcomes.
  • Contribution to ENGIE’s UK energy transition objectives.

  • External: Energy producers and developers, Industrial and B2B energy consumers, Financial institutions, investors, and funds, Utilities, infrastructure operators, and market counterparties.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Deep understanding of UK power, gas, and environmental markets.
  • Strong expertise in PPAs, structured and flexible energy products, and risk management solutions.
  • Proven commercial negotiation and deal structuring capability.
  • Strategic thinking combined with strong execution discipline.
  • People leadership, coaching, and talent development skills.
  • Strong financial, risk, and market analysis acumen.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Experience:

  • Significant experience (+10 years) in energy origination or energy risk management within gas and power wholesale markets.
  • Proven track record of originating, structuring and executing complex energy transactions.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing senior commercial professionals.
  • Experience working with or within large, international energy or commodity organisations.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Engineering, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, or Energy‑related field).
  • Postgraduate qualification (MBA or equivalent) or professional certifications are advantageous.
