This opportunity is open to students currently studying Civil or Structural Engineering and seeking a short-term internship to gain industry experience.

You will join the recently created TRACTEBEL entity in the UK, with ambitious goals and exceptional projects. The entity’s mission is to promote TRACTEBEL as a key player in the UK nuclear industry, alongside supporting and working in collaboration with our colleagues across the world.

As well as several prestigious and innovative nuclear research, operation, and decommissioning projects throughout Europe, TRACTEBEL is also contributing to the detailed design of structures on the Nuclear Island at Hinkley Point C (HPC) and Sizewell C (SZC). You will be part of a dynamic, highly motivated and multicultural team. This position is a great opportunity for you to develop your professional and personal skills and work on globally recognised projects.

The OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for motivated and forward-thinking Civil Engineering students to join our engineering teams for a short-term internship. You will support the design of nuclear power plants such as HPC and SZC, applying your engineering and problem-solving skills while learning how major infrastructure projects are delivered.

During your internship, you may be involved in:

  • Learning and assisting with structural design of nuclear structures, including for accidental scenarios (e.g., seismic and blast).
  • Supporting analysis of structures using commercial FEM software.
  • Collaborating with project stakeholders on complex engineering challenges.
  • Responding to queries from construction sites.
  • Assisting project leads with coordination and management tasks.
  • Supporting the transfer of design information to reinforcement detailers.
  • Building strong relationships with engineers across our project teams.

Your Profile

To be successful in this internship, you should:

  • Be studying for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Be passionate about engineering and eager to learn about the nuclear industry.
  • Be proactive and collaborative, especially within a multicultural team.
  • Be agile, self-motivated, and focused on continuous improvement.
  • Be open to new challenges and willing to take initiative and responsibility.
  • Have programming knowledge in one or more languages.
