About the Role

As a Business Manager, you will help drive and coordinate the daily operations and long-term growth of Engelhart’s financial and physical commodities businesses in Europe.

The products include European gas and power, renewables, dry bulk freight, and financial commodities trading.

The role encompasses a broad and evolving remit with varying levels of complexity, requiring you to lead cross-functional initiatives and address complex business challenges across the organisation.

To be successful in this position, you will have a strong sense of ownership and accountability, as well as excellent communication skills, coupled with strong attention to detail and commitment to high quality work, whatever the task.

The role provides exposure to all levels of staff seniority in an international commodities trading company, and includes an attractive compensation package and bonus scheme.

Based in our London office, this role will report directly into our Head of Business Management for Europe, who is based in our Berlin office.

This will be a full-time role, owning the following responsibilities

  • Act as a key interface between trading desks and support functions, ensuring alignment and efficient delivery of initiatives.
  • Ensure robustness and continuous improvement of processes, controls, and governance frameworks.
  • Apply deep understanding of systems and processes to identify inefficiencies and implement improvements.
  • Own and drive coordination of business controls and approvals, ensuring timely and effective outcomes.
  • Drive business planning, performance monitoring, and cost analysis, providing actionable insights to senior management.
  • Lead resolution of complex operational challenges across desks, geographies and functions.

About You

This person will be motivated to drive and coordinate business operations and strategic initiatives across a commodities trading platform.

They will be a seasoned business manager, experienced with commodities trading and confident working with an international team.

  • The following background, experiences and skills are essential for application:
  • A strong academic background; educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • At least 7-10 years of relevant experience within commodities or energy trading, of which at least 5 years must have been in business management.
  • Solid experience of European power and gas, and preferably renewables too.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with front office and support functions, with exposure to senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable experience in communicating clearly and effectively (written and verbally), particularly with Power Point.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Copilot.
  • Fluent English language skills are mandatory.

  • Resilient under pressure; able to remain calm and effective when faced with multiple requests or demands at the same time.
  • Able to work accurately at the lowest level of detail, while also being able to succinctly summarise key messages for senior management.
  • Able to effectively prioritise tasks and consistently deliver high quality work, with the ability to rapidly re-prioritise if needed without losing track of lower priority items.
  • A highly analytical, logical and detail-oriented working style.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage in effective, direct communication across different levels of seniority with colleagues globally.
  • Willing to act consistently as a team player; willing to get stuck into tasks outside of usual remit and help do everything necessary to make the business operate successfully.
  • Able to adapt skillset to varying tasks, demonstrate flexibility and assimilate knowledge quickly.
