Engelhart was founded in 2013 by BTG Pactual Group as a commodities trading company. Our business model is “asset light” and highly diversified – giving us the ability to adapt effectively and nimbly to changing market conditions. We have assembled successful multidisciplinary teams, leveraging advanced fundamental analysis with deep quantitative and weather research capabilities. Our activities are underpinned by strong risk management practices and by powerful technology and operational excellence. We have exceptional teams with diverse global backgrounds and decades of experience, and are driven by a highly collaborative culture, across products and competencies.

In 2024, Engelhart acquired Trailstone, a global energy trading and technology company. The acquisition provides us with new expertise, analytics and proprietary technology which is being used to provide risk management and optimisation services to help maximise the value of our clients’ renewable power. The acquisition also expanded Engelhart’s capabilities into physical natural gas across North America, a critical fuel to support the energy transition.

Our talented and experienced individuals work together according to its four company values: be bold, be collaborative, be proactive, be your best.

About the Role

Engelhart is seeking a UK Power Trader to join our Renewables business in London. This role will focus on pricing and managing UK load‑shaping opportunities, structured contracts, and traditional physical PPAs and BESS tolling arrangements. A key responsibility will be working closely with the Origination team to identify and develop non‑standard portfolio opportunities that can be proactively taken to market, supporting a balanced‑book approach to UK trading.

The post‑holder will have full access to Engelhart’s proprietary models and curves and will collaborate closely with proprietary trading and analytics teams across Europe to manage positions, including the 24‑hour short‑term power desk. Whilst structured transactions are envisaged to form the majority of the book, the intention is to expand physical PPA and retail positions through longer‑term transactions.

This role will be full‑time and based in our office at Berkeley Square, Mayfair, with the expectation of working on‑site at least four days per week. The post‑holder will own the following responsibilities:

  • Price power products including HH base/off‑peak curves, battery options (TB2), spark spreads, and peaking options.
  • Assess and manage wind and solar capture rates and volume risks.
  • Trade and price retail position swaps and shape products.
  • Hold and manage shape, capture, and volume risk across the load‑shaped portfolio.
  • Develop and execute structured transactions that reflect retail and generation positions, including traditional physical PPAs and BESS tolling.
  • Express market views through technology‑driven structured contract, OTC, and weather derivative products to optimise portfolio performance.
  • Coordinate with European Trading, Weather, and Analytical teams to leverage proprietary models and market data for position management and market insights.
  • Collaborate with the Origination team to identify and structure transactions for balanced portfolio hedging.
  • Ensure trading activity stays within agreed VaR, stress tests, and volume limits.
  • Enable portfolio growth by identifying opportunities with suitable risk premium.
