Engelhart was founded in 2013 by BTG Pactual Group as a commodities trading company. Our business model is “asset light” and highly diversified – giving us the ability to adapt effectively and nimbly to changing market conditions. We have assembled successful multidisciplinary teams, leveraging advanced fundamental analysis with deep quantitative and weather research capabilities. Our activities are underpinned by strong risk management practices and by powerful technology and operational excellence. We have exceptional teams with diverse global backgrounds and decades of experience, and are driven by a highly collaborative culture, across products and competencies. In 2024, Engelhart acquired Trailstone, a global energy trading and technology company. The acquisition provides us with new expertise, analytics and proprietary technology which is being used to provide risk management and optimisation services to help maximise the value of our clients’ renewable power. The acquisition also expanded Engelhart’s capabilities into physical natural gas across North America, a critical fuel to support the energy transition. Our talented and experienced individuals work together according to its four company values: be bold, be collaborative, be proactive, be your best.

About the Role

We are looking for a Back Office Analyst to join our small and busy Operations team in our London office. This role will be part of the team responsible for the trade life-cycle management of all trades concluded by our Front Office. This includes confirmations, margin & collateral management, invoicing and settlements. This role works closely with all major departments, including the Trading Desks, Treasury, Credit and Compliance. As a hybrid role, there is an expectation to work at least three days each week on-site in our London office, based in Berkeley Square, Mayfair. This will be a full-time role, owning the following responsibilities:

  • Ensuring all OTC and inter-company settlements are completed in a timely manner.
  • Assisting in the onboarding of new counterparties by ensuring all static data is correct in our trading system.
  • Owning the end of day cashflow report to ensure all settlements for the day have been reconciled and processed.
  • Reconciling and settling monthly renewable PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) contracts.
  • Performing and understanding the daily global margin calls.
  • Managing inventory and deliveries for renewable certificates (ROCs, REGOs, GOOs).
  • Producing monthly KPIs for management to show the tasks performed by the Back Office team.
  • Working closely with the London-based Product Control team, ensuring all invoicing and cash reconciliations are completed in a timely manner prior to month end.
  • Acting as a key point of contact for Compliance, with the aim of ensuring that the team is performing all required regulatory tasks (e.g. REMIT, EMIR, ad-hoc reporting).
  • Assisting the Middle Office & Operations Manager with process improvements around automation.
  • Monitoring the Back Office mailbox, owning the distribution of tasks accordingly, escalating issues to senior colleagues where appropriate.
  • Responding to Back Office related queries from internal and external counterparties in a timely fashion.
  • Acting as a mentor to junior team members.

About You

The successful candidate will have substantive working experience in back office & financial operations, with a good knowledge of power commodities. In addition, we believe the following experiences and skills are required to best set this individual up for success:

  • Demonstrable experience in financial or energy markets, with strong working knowledge of the trade life-cycle from a Back Office function.
  • Excel skills at intermediate level or higher, including competence working with large data sets.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage in effective, direct communication across different levels of seniority with colleagues globally (for example, trading desks and senior management).
  • A self-starter attitude and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Analytical and highly numerate, with strong attention to detail.
  • A team player approach and willingness to support the wider team where needed.
  • Fluent written and verbal English language skills.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python is highly desirable but not essential.
